The Speakers Bureau

SITS provides several services, but our most popular by far is the Speakers' Bureau. Through the Speakers' Bureau, we assist schools in finding volunteer scientists and innovators to speak to students across the province. And the best part is, it's completely free! So you can bring exciting, hands-on science learning into your classroom at no charge. What better way to learn about subjects such as biology, electricity, light and sound, physics, the environment, or engineering, than from those that have made a career of these subjects? The Climate Change Action Pack (CCAP)

We also offer the Climate Change Action Pack. The Climate Change Action Pack is a hands-on collection of curriculum-linked lesson plans for Grades 4-6 teachers, with a focus on Climate Change and its underlying concepts, specifically related to Nova Scotia. It is based on the Atlantic Canada Science Curriculum and the Pan-Canadian Protocol "Common Framework of Science Learning Outcomes", and includes units on weather, habitat and adaptation, and energy. Many cross-curriculum links are also provided. For more information about the CCAP, click here

Mentoring, Science fair judging, and Workplace visits

In our database of volunteers, we have some scientists that are willing to act as mentors to students with a specific scientific interest, judge at your science fair, conduct tours of their workplace, or lead field trips. If you would like to find out more about the availability of these options, email sits@dal.ca

ASLA’s Conference for Science Teachers

ASLA holds its annual interactive conference for science teachers with hands on activities and learning in late August every year. Registration opens in late June just before the end of the school year.
